The Alpha Multi has all the benefits of the renowned Alpha yet can print up to 9-colours in a footprint of just 5 square metres. The Alpha Multi can be purchased as an upgrade to an original Alpha or as a brand new stand alone press. The new Alpha Multi has the same short web path and quick job change as the original Alpha and offers all the benefits of a modular machine but at a fraction of the price.
Edale is the UK’s leading manufacturer of narrow web flexographic presses and converting machinery, with an impressive record of innovation and development. The award-winning Alpha is Edale’s compact three, four or five-colour flexopress available in 250 mm and 330 mm web widths, with a footprint of just 2.5 square metres. With sales of the Edale Alpha now at well over 150 machines, in over 50 countries around the world this compact press is becoming the favourite with both large and small companies alike. Following changes in the market worldwide, Edale are demonstrating to be ahead of the competition, cost effective and creative, this is being proved with the latest development of the Alpha - the Alpha Multi. Talented designers and engineers have recently designed and manufactured in-house this new flexopress which can print up to 9-colours in a footprint of just 5 square metres.
The unique twin stack arrangement has the added benefit of allowing one stack to be in production whilst the second stack is being made-ready. Martin Jackson, Director of Kingfisher Labels, purchased the first Alpha Multi from Edale and said, "The compact footprint and its ability to run a 5-colour or a 9-colour thread up ensures minimum waste which appeals to Kingfisher Labels as it allows maximum flexibility on existing projects as well as providing expanded capabilities as future trends and production requirements dictate."
Edale Ltd is holding an open event to new and existing customers during the first week of March to experience the new Alpha Multi.
The event will be held at Edale’s new facilities in Hampshire.

Source:<a href="http://www.edale.co.uk/"rel="nofollow"> Edale

ROTOFLEX FINISHING EQUIPMENT SHOWS BOLD, NEW DESIGNS AT LABELEXPO

Rotoflex, a global leader in the label industry will display leading inspection and rewind technologies at Labelexpo Europe 2009. So we had to act fast, and in the full respect of the Italian and European laws. Thus we changed management, organisation, manufacturing sites, a new ownership and quickly slim down to recuperate efficiency and a sustainable organisation for the future. This was specially needed to protect the service, and the press value, to all the 250 converters who invested in the GIDUE presses in the past 10 years.”

Mr. d’Annunzio continues:”The Local Trade Unions, the Italian State and Legal Authorities, our credit institutes, our suppliers and our customers have been cooperative and extremely efficient to make all this possible, using the proper legal procedures, in a very short time. We wish to thank them all for their continued and effective support.
We all hope that Nuova GIDUE will contribute, with its technology and innovation, to a fast recovery of our industry.”

Nilpeter launches new UV-Flexo and InkJet technology at LabelExpo Americas 2008

Nilpeter closed the latest LabelExpo Americas, held recently in Chicago, in an upbeat mode. Global inflation may be a major threat to the world economy, but overall growth for the global label industry remains fairly buoyant in most market sectors. Reflecting this, Sales Director Jakob Landberg said, 'Despite the current financial problems, we experienced a positive atmosphere and had an extremely successful show with orders firmed up for 26 machines across all lines'.

Nilpeter's exhibition highlights included:

* The successful introduction of the FG-Line of flexo combination presses.
* The North American debut of CASLON, a full-colour InkJet and flexo printing platform.
* New print units for the FB-3300 UV-flexo labels and packaging press.

• The new FG-Line is a mid-range press positioned between the FA-Line and the high-performance FB-Line. 'G' stands for 'Global', which means it incorporates features designed to give converters a competitive advantage anywhere in the world. For example, each of the print units incorporate dual servo drives and incorporate the latest lightweight sleeve-plate technology. The maximum web width is 13.75 inches. Manufacturing is split between Nilpeter's plants in Denmark and the USA. The show version ran with eight UV-flexo units producing film and paper self-adhesive.

• The CASLON platform combines drop-on-demand InkJet printing with one or more flexo printing/coating units and rotary die cutting. It uses Xaar's 1001 drop-on-demand print heads for printing UV-curable CMYK ink sets for labels and packaging. The front-end, developed by FFEI, allows users to print variable data printing on the fly, or print single copies of full-colour labels on practically any material to a maximum resolution of 720 x 360 dpi. CASLON offers eight greyscale levels. It achieves a top speed of 25.3 m/min. (82 feet/min.) at a 360 x 360 dpi resolution and 8 grey scales. The show version ran with two FA-4 units handling a maximum web width of 420 mm (16.5 inches). One applied a UV-cured varnish, while the other applied an opaque white background for clear-on-clear film labelling.

• An eight-colour FB-3300 in the FB-Line series of modular UV-flexo presses was demonstrated. It boasts a redesigned print unit that gives faster adjustments and rapid anilox roll changes. Servo-driven FB-presses have a maximum web width of 420 mm (16.5 inches) and produce PSAs and flexible packaging at a top speed of 228 m/min. (750 ft/min.). The integral UV-curing lamp units are fitted with integral water-cooled chill rollers to assist the converting of heat-sensitive materials. Options include screen process and hot foil modules.

• Although not shown, Nilpeter received strong interest for its latest MO-4 offset-based platform press. It is designed for both long and short runs of premium-quality products, using freely configurable offset, flexo, rotary screen or gravure print units. Offset blanket sleeves and flexo plate sleeves are now incorporated.

Speedmaster XL 105 With Perfecting Device Delivers Impressive Performance in a Single Pass

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 125px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_SBb3TrA9coM/SXjCvjbQswI/AAAAAAAAAV4/ul-DNXpNkDo/s200/heidelberg+090120_speedmaster_xl_105_jpg_lrg.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5294195484193239810" />

Industrial print shops looking to offer their customers top quality and quick delivery achieve this through high-performance presses such as the new Speedmaster XL 105 with perfecting device from Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg). This Peak Performance Class press is now in use at a number of pioneering print shops around the world and is setting new standards in terms of productivity and cost efficiency in perfecting mode.

"This press enables us to boost productivity by ten million sheets per year," report Christian and Stefan Aumüller, owners of Aumüller Druck in Regensburg. This commercial print shop has a workforce of hundred and, following a comprehensive field test, installed not one but four Speedmaster XL 105 perfecting presses in its pressroom. "The excellent productivity and flexibility of these presses cuts production costs and enables us to offer competitive prices," the two owners add. The Speedmaster XL 105 with perfecting device is an integrated end-to-end system that processes substrate thicknesses of between 0.03 and 0.60 millimeters (between 0.0012 and 0.024 inches) at a speed of 15,000 sheets per hour.

The Franz Kuthal print shop in Mainaschaff has also converted its entire pressroom to Speedmaster XL 105 technology from Heidelberg. It operates a total of 29 printing units in this series, including a ten-color perfecting press. "This press produces top-quality sheets printed in five colors on both sides in a single pass," confirm print shop owners Helmut Kraft and Stefan Glaab. Kuthal has a workforce of 320 (including staff from RMD) and a product portfolio that includes high-quality prospectuses, product brochures, and annual reports. The Speedmaster XL 105-P boasts fully automatic three-drum perfecting technology with variable transfer cylinder and eccentric reversing drum. This is further enhanced by high-precision and ultra-smooth sheet travel. The innovative, variable AirTransfer system and exchangeable shells for the impression and transfer cylinders ensure that perfected sheets are guided mark-free through the press.

DS Graphics in Lowell, Massachusetts, recently started production with the first Speedmaster XL 105-P in the U.S. This ten-color press incorporates Prinect Inpress Control for color and register control on the fly and is already achieving a throughput of more than one million sheets per week. "We are keen to offer our customers higher quality and shorter delivery times," explains Jack McGrath, Vice President Sales & Marketing at DS Graphics. "Production in a single pass and the reduction in paper waste achieved by the high level of automation also help make our printing operations more sustainable," adds McGrath, who is an advocate of green printing. A workforce of over 180 produces commercial products for industry and offers a range of services based on a complete solution from Heidelberg that includes the Suprasetter 105, other Speedmaster presses, Stahlfolder folders, and a Polar cutter.

Sustainability was one of the key criteria for Rolf Ottesen AS Grafisk Produksjon in Oslo. This print shop will take delivery of Norway’s first Speedmaster XL 105 with perfecting device early this year and intends to continue the policy adopted for its two existing Speedmaster CD 102 four-color presses by operating the eight-color press using alcohol-free production methods. The new press is equipped with Prinect Inpress Control for quick makeready and a minimum of paper waste. The print shop is also investing in a Stahlfolder KH 82 with automated cross-fold unit - another innovation unveiled at drupa 2008. The company is relocating to a new production hall to allow the Ottesen print shop and the Joker Grafisk AS print shop to combine their production operations. Both companies use the Prinect workflow. The Speedmaster XL 105-P will be supplied complete with Prinect Pressroom Manager, and all equipment in the new hall will be connected to the Prinect Integration System. "Thanks to the largest investment in our company’s history, we are very well placed for the future," states owner Per Ottesen.

Highest level of automation in the 70 x 100 centimeter format class
The Speedmaster SM 102 with perfecting device has dominated the 70 x 100 centimeter (27.56 x 39.37 inch) format long perfector market for many years. More than 1,500 presses with eight or more printing units have been installed worldwide. With the Speedmaster XL 105-P, Heidelberg is expanding its product range in this format, appealing to customers who value maximum productivity and cost efficiency.

The fully automatic perfecting device and comprehensive automation of numerous process steps help minimize makeready times and raise productivity levels. The new high-performance Prinect Press Center control station and the brand new Sheetfed Control press control system deliver simple and central press control. The innovative Intellistart process-oriented operator guidance system also helps deliver shorter makeready times during job changes.

National Labels of Pennsylvania, USA, takes over its first MO-4 in Nilpeter A/S, Denmark

Growing business for National Labels in the high-end sector of value-added health & beauty labels made Nilpeter's introduction as the first sleeve-based narrow web combination offset press the dream come through. This led to the investment in the first MO-4 - and plans for more to come.

The new MO-4 was taken over after several days of production simulation on live commercial blue chip cosmetic labels – with an exceptional result. It will be the first MO-4 Nilpeter delivers to the American market.
Jim Shacklett, III, Chief Executive Officer, National Label Company, says, “The Nilpeter offset presses are vital to achieving our goals of increased quality, performance, and flexibility in today's competitive world. The new MO-4 allows us to improve our quality and reduce our waste of time, material, and set-up resources. The performance of the Nilpeter MO-3300 Servo is a benchmark in our industry; however, after intensive testing on our new MO-4, we are pleased to see further improved quality and productivity. We now look forward to implementing this new combination machine which will certainly increase our productivity.”
Lars Eriksen, Nilpeter President & CEO, adds, "I am very proud to have National Labels as our valued partner. The MO-4 is a strategic product for us – and I am sure that it will bring a lot of new business opportunities to both of our companies. There is so much new technology available – and we have focused on utilizing it for the benefit of the processes and the press operators. The main focus, however, has been on saving tooling costs, time, and waste aiming this new offset press at short as well as long runs.”
The new MO-4 is an integrated part of Nilpeter's Dream Concept and compatible with UV-flexo, UV-screen, UV and Solvent Gravure, hot foil, cold foil, CASLON UV-InkJet as well as numerous in-line converting principles. The major advantage to other combination offset solutions in the narrow web industry is the Easy-Load lightweight sleeve system that has replaced the old-fashioned cassettes. This has reduced setup time and waste considerably.

SPECTRUM LABEL INSTALLS SHAFTLESS MARK ANDY XP5000 PRESS

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 144px; height: 100px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_SBb3TrA9coM/SWu54p2yDuI/AAAAAAAAAVM/1-4ZpXkMUaI/s200/XP5000+Glamour+lo.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5290526570236219106" />
Mark Andy Inc., a world leader in narrow web printing equipment, is proud to have partnered with Spectrum Label Corporation (www.spectrumlabel.com) on installation of the first shaftless Mark Andy XP5000. The press, introduced at Labelexpo Americas 2008, is dedicated to innovative productivity and flexibility for printers and converters.

Spectrum Label is a high-end label converter with interests in a variety of markets including food, wine & beverage, health & beauty, pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals. Increased interest from customers in obtaining film-based labels and flexible packaging prompted Spectrum to investigate expanded competencies in their production area. After learning about the superior film handling capabilities and the flexible platform design of the shaftless servo Mark Andy XP5000, Spectrum made their choice.

"The shaftless XP5000 fulfills the promise of servo technology through independent interstation surface speed and registry control," states Bruce Riddell, vice president of engineering, Spectrum Label. "This, combined with an enhanced drying system allows us to run high speed, predictable quality day in and day out."

A true platform design, the Mark Andy XP5000 provides the capacity to perform flexo, UV flexo, cold foil, hot foil, screen and interstation die cutting all within the same print head. This was appealing to Spectrum as it allows maximum flexibility on existing projects as well as providing expanded capabilities as future trends and production requirements dictate. In addition to the flexibility of the platform design, faster makereadies, increased productivity, reduced waste and enhanced registration were draws of the XP5000. Mark Massey, vice president of manufacturing recently stated that the XP5000 press has met and exceeded all expectations of the purchase order.

Founded in 1968, Spectrum Label houses eight (8) Mark Andy presses in the 65,000 square foot facility in Hayward, California, USA. Led by Jerry Kwok, president and CEO, along with his team including Massey and Riddell, Spectrum has been a valued Mark Andy partner for more than 25 years.

Martin Automatic to exhibit at India Label Show

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 134px; height: 200px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_SBb3TrA9coM/SSSINGpkrvI/AAAAAAAAASw/K0VE6gNClIE/s200/martin-india.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5270487222634983154" />

Martin Automatic will exhibit at India Label Show, to be held December 3-6 in New Delhi, India.

"The labeling industry in India is one of the fastest growing markets worldwide. "This is really what automatic roll changing is all about. Martin was 'green' long before the term was invented and before the recent emphasis on sustainability and waste. With automatic splicing, label printers can cut their waste, save the landfill—and profit from the savings."

Martin Automatic Inc's booth number is C42.

New Offset /Flexo Xpannd 450 for labels and sleeves introduced during the next GIDUE Open House

Larger print width and top printing quality for shrink sleeves and self-adhesive labels

GIDUE latest combined offset/flexo press Xpannd 450, will be presented during the next GIDUE Open House on the 27th and 28th of November. The wider width of the press, 450mm, is convenient for printing both self-adhesive and shrinkable sleeves and makes offset/flexo combination a valuable choice for a larger number of converters.

The offset/flexo Xpannd 450 is a viable solution for label converters who want to increase profitability during the actual market slowdown. With its characteristics of high printing quality at lower operating costs, full versatility on the choice of the substrates (from rough papers to shrinkable materials), total flexibility on the choice of the available technologies (offset, flexo, silkscreen, gravure, hot stamping, etc.), limited ‘risks’ on difficult high-end jobs, 'glocal' standardisation and lower offset plate costs for short runs printing, full digital flow integration with the digital process, the Xpannd 450 is an efficient tool to be proactive and flexible in any competitive market.

The Xpannd Hi-Offset system meets the BVDM (German Association for Printing) guidelines in terms of dot gain, colour fading, slur and doubling, ghosting and streaking and obtained for this reason the SID certification.

The accurate GIDUE web tension and temperature controls on the Xpannd 450, and the Universal Platform concept (modular printing station for the interchange of different printing processes – flexo, silkscreen, hot stamping, gravure), make the printing of offset/flexo and multi-process on several filmic substrates a realistic opportunity to enter new markets.

The Digital Automation of the Xpannd 450, in combination with offset and multi-process, helps reducing waste and set-up times and represents a choice for owners of digital, intermittent offset, sheet-fed offset presses and for label converters whose need is to print short runs cost-effectively.

The high-end offset/flexo combination quality is an alternative solution for UV flexo label printers who look for product and market differentiation or want to serve their existing customers offering new and higher standards.

Due to the wider size of the press, special attention is given to safety and to the ease of use through the multi-process Organizer (Patent Pending). This Organizer allows the handling and storage of the Offset Cassettes and of the multi-process heads and is positioned in front of the machine for its entire length. No load handling, no stress and no risks for the operator are involved. A ‘lean’ working environment makes format and process change simple, fast and well-organized.

“Despite the present recession times, GIDUE has decided to ‘re-launch’ itself in a series of new R&D projects. I believe that the label industry is suffering a general crisis due to production over-capacity and lack of differentiation within label converters - states Federico d’Annunzio, President of Gidue S.p.A. – the new Xpannd 450, with its ‘uncommon’ width and its total flexibility can be the answer for label printers who seek for better profit performances for their companies and not simply for a turnover increase.”

The first Xpannd 450 (4-colour offset, 6-colour flexo) has been successfully installed at I.B.E., Industry Business European, of Merate (Lc), Italy. One Xpannd 370 (5 offset, 3 flexo, 1 hot stamping and 1 silkscreen) will be on display at GIDUE plant, in Italy, during the next Open House. GIDUE Team is looking forward to meeting you on the 27th and 28th November, write to marketing@gidue.com to receive detailed information on the event.

The Labelmakers Group Commissions the First Alprinta 74V in Australia

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 166px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_SBb3TrA9coM/SRRVzwZIUmI/AAAAAAAAAQ0/pvyJMq0ag3o/s200/mullermartini.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5265928211954946658" />
The Labelmakers Group, leading Australian label producers with head office in Somerton in the state of Victoria, invested as first printing house on the fifth continent in an Alprinta 74V web offset printing press.

Managing Director of Labelmakers, Paul O'Sullivan, declined to comment on what exactly the Alprinta 74V would be producing. Ltd.

“Over the past two years Nilpeter has watched the Indian label market grow intensively. In 2007 we started our cooperation with Proteck Machinery as our agent for sales and service in India and quickly found that we share the same set of company values”, Nilpeter's Sales & Marketing Director, Mr. Jakob Landberg states.
“The partnership has led to a closer cooperation and by combining Nilpeter's label press know-how and Proteck's manufacturing competences, we expect to introduce a locally produced press to the Indian market early 2009.

The Nilpeter India Team
All together, the Nilpeter India team members have many years of experience in the narrow web label industry in India. The broad spectrum of experience starts in the Sales Department, headed by Mr. Manish Kapoor to Application Department, headed by Mr. C. Kanivannan and over to Managing Director, Mr. Alan Barretto, who has elaborate experience with manufacturing products to the graphic industry.
Manish Kapoor has been in the industry for over 15 years, and has initially provided us with a great deal of information of the markets, and since backed it up by establishing an impressive number of new partnerships with label printers in India.
“The Nilpeter product has been well received in the market”, Manish Kapoor states. “I know most of the printers and suppliers in the market today and look forward to put further action behind the words”, says Manish Kapoor.
“We have gathered a great team of individuals to carry forward the company and its future ambitions in the Indian market”, says Executive Assistant, Mr. Peter Eriksen from Nilpeter in Denmark.
“All of the team members fit perfectly into Nilpeter’s “People-to-People” philosophy, which focuses on the relationships between both suppliers and customers. The Indian label industry is increasing rapidly, but in order to be the leading player, we need to have the best people with us. It’s all about the people”, Peter Eriksen continues.

Synergy effects in India
Managing Director of Nilpeter India, and a long-time employee with Proteck, Alan Barretto adds, ”Nilpeter India has decided to set up offices in Chennai, close to Proteck and many other Danish industrial giants in order to take advantages of the many synergy effects”.
“We will use the same high quality Nilpeter parts as normally expected by the label printer. The obvious advantage for the Indian printers is shorter delivery times of the press itself. However, quick delivery of parts and service, all only hours away, no matter where in India the press is installed, makes us stand out from competition”, Alan Barretto says.

India Label Show
At the show Nilpeter will display the successful FB-3300 Servo machine from Nilpeter in USA. The press will be installed at Synergy Print in Mumbai after the show.
C. Kanivannan, who is in charge of print applications with Nilpeter India, will assist in running the press at the show and happily answer questions from all visitors.
“The FB-3300 S press is a work horse out of the extraordinary. I have worked with many presses over the years, but the FB-Line has really taken advantage of the servo technology and is extremely easy to run – the performance is simply amazing”,
C. Kanivannan says.
The new members of the Nilpeter family will be present at the Nilpeter booth at ILS and welcome everyone to become ”…your printing partner”.

FLEXOTECNICA F12 WIN PRESTIGIOUS TECHNOLOGY AWARD FOR BEST INNOVATION

Flexotecnica are proud to announce their success in the 2008 FlexoTech Awards as winner of the award for “Innovation in Printing Press/Finishing”. The annual event was held in London on Wednesday 15th October at the spectacular Hilton Metropole Hotel

Flexotecnica entered their new “F12”, 12 colour CI flexopress which was recently launched at Drupa 2008. The F12 beat off stiff competition from around the Flexo industry and fellow finalists from Omet Srl and Apex Europe Bv and the award was presented to Maria Costantino, Marketing Manager by England’s Rugby Union World Cup Winner, Matt Dawson. The event was attended by over 500 printers and suppliers from all corners of the European community, print quality was celebrated by entries on film, paper and board from narrow to wide web substrates. The F12, the world’s first 12 colour wide web CI flexopress, incorporates numerous important innovations to optimise flexopress productivity and efficiency.Twelve colours around a single CI means infinite combinations of colours, special primer coatings, special motives with sophisticated graphic artwork and the demand of a finish over-lacquer can all be achieved on the F12 without jeopardizing the production speeds. To ensure utmost flexibility in utilizing 12 print units combined with a drastic reduction of the press downtime, the F12 incorporates the SSC® system (Safe Sleeve Change) developed by Flexotecnica that incorporates individual unit shutter guards to cover the CI and individual unit entry guards to allow the make-ready of idle print units whilst the remainder are in print in the safest and most practical way.Another new feature, “WiPC – Wireless Press Control” utilizes advanced WiFi technology and readily available PDA handsets that allows operators to conveniently control press speeds, substrate tensions, dryer temperatures, impression and register settings and many more from any position around the machine. .The design of the print deck is further enhanced by a new “Pipeless” doctor chamber design that removes all ink piping from the operating area to outside the machines substantial side frames. The F12 can be viewed at Flexotecnica’s production headquarters in Tavazzano, Lodi where the machine was demonstrated on 29th, 30th and 31st October during a Open House printing with one 6 colour job whilst preparing the next 6 colour job, highlighting its productivity to numerous clients coming from different foreign countries interested in this award winning machine.

Multifilm Packaging Chooses 8-color PRIMAFLEX Press to Increase Productivity and Expand in New Markets

Multifilm Packaging's intention to invest in their printing department
had been in discussion for some time. They recently decided on a 52” 8-color PRIMAFLEX CM flexographic press, based on W&H's reputation as the market leader in advanced technology,
reliability of the equipment and positive feedback from other W&H customers that Multifilm visited, confirming that the machine performed even better than promised.

“Historically, our business has been long runs, 3 to 4 colors, and simple print designs,” says
Chris Rogers, Vice President of Sales. “As we have grown into other areas, we have seen more
of our business shift into shorter runs, more colors, and more complex print designs with screens
and process printing. We needed a printing press that could dramatically improve our productivity
on all our current business and provide the opportunity to expand in our newer markets by offering
8 color printing.”

Multifilm Packaging, located in Elgin, IL, is a vertically integrated flexible packaging converter, with
in-house cast extrusion, metallizing, flexographic printing, adhesive laminating, and slitting. Primary markets are confectionary twist wraps and bag film, and high barrier laminates for dry foods. The
press is scheduled to be installed towards the end of 2008.
