KHS Focuses on Value Added Bottling and Expert Holistic Systems

Expert systems in every respect - this is what KHS AG will be demonstrating during NPE 2009 in Chicago
The focus here will be on a comprehensive range of services in packaging systems for plastic bottles. KHS Corpoplast and KHS Plasmax, as well as KHS Asbofill, which has been integrated into the company group, emphasize that, as a 100%-owned subsidiary of Klöckner-Werke AG, KHS AG now operates holistically in the field of PET packaging systems with the companies that have recently joined the group.

A key catchword during NPE 2009 will be the concept of Value Added Bottling. By Value Added Bottling, KHS means offering a concept of machinery and service developed from a holistic perspective for manufacturing, filling, and packaging PET containers. Complete PET packaging systems with the Bottles & ShapesTM program, leading Blomax stretch blow molding technology, and the unique Plasmax barrier coating - all available from one source and complemented by the KHS range of filling, labeling, and packaging services. During the trade show, KHS will be using a touch screen monitor to tangibly demonstrate how services interact.

With Bottles & ShapesTM KHS offers a comprehensive service package. Companies in the beverage, food, and non-food branches of industry benefit from consulting services that are second to none. This begins with developing an initial design and marketing idea for the desired new packaging. It continues with selecting the materials, designing the preforms, engineering the bottles, and carrying out all laboratory tests - taking the filling technology and the behavior of the plastic bottles throughout the entire production line into account of course. The final stage involves guaranteeing that all agreed parameters for bottles in industrial production are adhered to.

At the NPE 2009, KHS will be presenting a host of different kinds of PET bottles to demonstrate just what successful bottle design using the Bottles & ShapesTM program looks like. These will include wine bottles with an InnoPET Plasmax barrier coating that have already become successfully established on the American and Canadian markets. The barrier consists of a wafer-thin layer of glass, which is applied like a film to the inside of PET bottles in the plasma process that prevents oxygen from penetrating the bottles thereby creating outstanding conditions for wine. An InnoPET Plasmax coating protects product quality and ensures a long shelf life for other sensitive beverages such as fruit juices and even beer in addition to carbonated, non-alcoholic beverages. The coating prevents the loss of CO2 in carbonated beverages in particular. And yet another outstanding advantage: PET bottles coated with silicon dioxide are one hundred percent suitable for bottle-to-bottle recycling.

Also on display at the trade show: an InnoPET Blomax stretch blow molder equipped with the innovative Speed-Loc quick-change system that offers decisive time advantages to those customers who frequently change products. There is no more loosening of screws and connections at the bottle base and inner shells. Releasing involves a single lever movement. With Speed-Loc, the steel bars are adjusted to the new product - changing is no longer necessary.

KHS will be appearing at the NPE as a company that offers far more than just technical systems. In this context, KHS will also be focusing on Life Cycle Solutions in addition to the services mentioned. By Life Cycle Solutions, KHS means a complete package of services that can be put together modularly, entirely according to individual requirements. KHS classifies Life Cycle Solutions in four areas, which correspond to the life cycle of a filling and packaging line: idea finding, investment, operating phase, and de-investment. The clear objective of Life Cycle Solutions is to achieve continuously efficient and economic operation of plant equipment over the entire life cycle
