Tetra Pak and Braskem to sign supply agreement on bio-based plastic for carton packaging in Brazil

In a carton packaging industry first, low density polyethylene from a renewable source planned to be used in all Tetra Pak packages produced in Brazil In a first for the carton packaging industry, Tetra Pak® today announces that it plans to sign an agreement with Braskem, the largest thermoplastic resins producer in the Americas, for the supply of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) made from sugar cane to its packaging material factories in Brazil. This breakthrough initiative, which will be limited in scope to Brazil only for the duration of the trial, is scheduled to start during the first quarter of 2014. According to the plan, Tetra Pak will use bio-based LDPE as a component of its packages produced in Brazil. Nyco launches a low density Polyolefin sleeve

Clondalkin Group company Nyco, has launched a low density Polyolefin sleeve which vastly improves recycling efficiency The new low density Polyolefin sleeve now makes it possible to separate shrink sleeves from PET bottles or cups by automated recycling processes. The newly introduced material has excellent machinability, flatness and high tensile strength. The material can be stored at room temperature, which is another distinct advantage over many more traditional sleeve materials. As with all of the products available from Nyco, the polyolefin sleeve can be printed Rotogravure, UV Flexo and UV Offset. Brazilian label printer Mack Color has bought its 3rd FB-3300 flexo press. Founded in 1984, the Sao Paulo-based company prides itself on having developed an advanced printing facility, operated by highly qualified staff and focused on fulfilling current and future customer needs through constant investment in technology. “This most recent FB-3300 has nine printing units, UV-varnish and cold foil, and a state-of-the-art register control system”, says Mack Color’s owner Marcos Rossi. “The servo-motors for each of the nine printing units guarantee a perfect register among different colours and complex, delicate images”. Lebanon's leading label printer installs a new Nilepter FA-3 flexo press

Label Plus in Bchamoun, about 14 km south of Beirut, has installed a Nilpeter FA-3 printing press. The fully-equipped machine includes eight flexo units, UV-curing, a maximum web width of 340 mm (13.5 inches) and a top speed of 175 m/min (574 ft/min.). As part of Nilpeter's well-established modular FA-Lines, the new press is expected to considerably increase the company’s capacity for high quality, primary self-adhesive labels. Haytham Sinno, General Manager and joint founder, says his company is Lebanon's leading label converter. 'We were established in 1998 and were the first company in the country to print roll-to-roll labels for automatic application machines using water-based and UV-cured flexo print units.' Flexible Woven Nylon Material for Electrical and Laboratory Applications

  Nylon label materials can offer significant advantages over polyester or polypropylene based films in terms of conformability.  This is very important when labeling rounded surfaces such as vials or test tubes used in medical and laboratory applications or identifying wire and cable bundles for the electrical industry .  The label needs to survive the life of the part identified and stiffness of a polyester or polypropylene material, over time, may cause failures such as flagging or delamination.  The flexibility of the nylon label would all the material to conform to a rounded surface and be less likely to see this type of failure.   Why is nylon better?  When compared to continuous film, the woven nylon absorbs the stresses that result from dimensional changes that occur from bending or at extreme temperatures.  The aggressive 1 mil pressure sensitive adhesive allows for a strong bond in extreme low temperature when adhered to rounded plastic or glass surfaces.   The
