Multi-Color Increases Thirst For Italian Wine

Multi-Color Corporation (MCC) is delighted to announce the acquisition of Italian wine label specialist La Cromografica. MCC has entered into a binding agreement to acquire 100% ownership of La Cromografica for a purchase price of approximately Euro 8.3 million, payable in cash with an expected closing on April 1, 2011.
Located in the heart of Tuscany in Florence, Italy, La Cromografica specializes in high quality wine labels for Italian premium wines. The company's revenues were approximately USD 11 million (Euro 8 million) in 2010 with profitability consistent with MCC's other wine label printing operations. The acquisition is expected to be immediately accretive.

Edale hold third distributor training event

Edale held their third annual distributor training event from 8-9 March 2011. This event saw 20 distributors from all over the globe travel to Manchester, UK, to partake in two full days of product training; including visits to two existing Edale customers – and a demonstration of the brand new web fed flatbed die cutting machine, the FDC-510.
On the first day, the distributors were taken to see short run folding carton suppliers, Reelvision Print. Reelvision, based in Lancashire are a successful start up company who have seen their business expand so rapidly in the past four years that they now own two Edale Gamma flexo systems – and are the first business to purchase an FDC-510.
Distributors were taken on a tour of the factory before Gareth Bakewell, joint MD of Reelvision, and James Boughton, MD of Edale, gave a presentation followed by Q&A session. Food companies in UK urged to invest in biodegradable packaging

Companies that use expanded content labels with their food products may need to adopt a new approach when it comes to packaging.According to Lord Redesdale, vice chairman of parliament's all-party climate change group, businesses should look at creating biodegradable packaging.This, he said, is because it would help to support the growing focus on anaerobic digestion (AD) - a means of disposing of waste while generating power and heat at the same time.Speaking to Packaging News, Lord Redesdale said the existing problem is stemming from the fact that organic waste tends to be put in plastic bags by consumers."Plastic bags are compostable and they will break down from the composting process but they will not digest in the AD process," he commented.Wales is already aiming to bring down the number of carrier bags issued across the country by imposing a minimum 5p charge for each one.The levy, which will come into force on October 1st, is the first of its kind to be implement…

CCL INDUSTRIES TO INVEST IN A JOINT VENTURE LABEL COMPANY FOR THE MIDDLE EAST AND INDIA

CCL Industries Inc., a world leader in specialty packaging solutions for the consumer products and healthcare industries, announced today that it has signed a binding agreement to acquire a 50% interest in Pacman-CCL, a privately owned group of label companies based in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates with additional operations in Cairo, Egypt and Muscat, Oman. Pacman-CCL has been a license holder of CCL Label since 2009. The remaining 50% interest in the venture will continue to be held by Mr. Ali Saeed Juma Albwardy who, through his holding entity Albwardy Investment, has overseen the growth of the company for more than two decades.
CCL Industries will pay US$18.5 million in cash to acquire its 50% interest in the venture. Pacman-CCL generated sales of US$25.8 million in the year ending December 31, 2010, with net after tax earnings of approximately US$4.6 million. Commercial Label Products is one of the UK's top digital label suppliers and manufacturers, with Xeikon technology now sitting alongside the company's existing HP and EFI Jetrion ink jet equipment. Zeller Plastik has adapted a flat oval dispensing closure to take its ZelValve sub-assembly to provide Homecare Products with an ideal dispensing system for its Hob Brite and Shiny Sinks cream cleaners.
Homecare Products is Zeller’s first Household customer for this extension to the standard range. The snap hinge push-on matt valve closure prevents spillages and provides consumers with the convenience of clean, accurate dispensing.

Procap restyles lid for Herta Knacki Balls

For many years Procap (Messia-sur-Sorne, France) has specialised in the manufacturing of plastic lids for the cosmetic and food industries as well as for chemical products. At the beginning of 2010 they restyled the lid on Herta Knacki Balls together with Nestlé. It now includes an in-mould label with four integrated cocktail sticks. Not only does this make the packaging look more attractive, but it adds to its functionality, too. The lid, including its cocktail sticks and label, is moulded in a single industrial process. The specially designed film makes it possible to pull the sticks off the lid easily and without damaging the in-mould label.

This container is available for meatballs in six different flavours and has a capacity of 200g. Each flavour is easily identifiable thanks to its specific in-mould label on the lid. This product is sold in supermarkets and is also available in cinema theatres.
