Chesapeake Invests In Latest In-Line Flexo Technology - Mark Andy Performance Series

Chesapeake Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Packaging (www.chesapeakecorp.com), a leading global supplier of healthcare packaging, has taken positive steps to improve its operations with significant investments made in high performance printing solutions. The company has selected the latest in-line narrow web flexo printing technology, the Mark Andy Performance Series, to enhance the ability of its Kunshan operation in China. Additional machines are under discussion for future installations, as well.

The P7 is the most advanced model in the Performance Series press offering and includes a revolutionary print deck design featuring fast print set-up and changeovers. The P7 also offers a sophisticated automation package which includes an exclusive registration management system for consistent quality control and fast makereadies.

V.P. Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Packaging, Mike Cheetham, commented on the investment, stating, “We primarily purchased the Performance Series machine because of its innovative print platform. We anticipate that our customers will benefit from the P7 machine’s consistently high print quality. The demand levels at our Kunshan site are steadily increasing and the press will ensure we continue to meet our customers’ expectations. The press is also highly efficient and minimal additional operator training is required due to its simple design.”

Mike Codington, General Manager, Chesapeake Kunshan, commented on the quantitative results of the new Performance Series. “Our team visited Mark Andy’s print technology center in Switzerland and witnessed impressive machine set-up and changeover times. The operator was able to complete all changeover tasks while maintaining high quality standards. This is the first P7 press in China and this investment, together with the site’s existing equipment and systems, further reinforces Chesapeake’s position as the leading supplier of pharmaceutical packaging.”

Several months of in-depth R&D went into the design of the Performance Series. Mark Andy met with several leading packaging suppliers and printers from more than 30 countries around the globe. The company performed a thorough analysis of each company’s flexo workflow and listened to their most critical challenges they face daily. This was critical to formulating a machine design that would deliver ‘quantifiable’ results.

Paul Brauss, CEO, Mark Andy Inc. stated, “As a result of our due diligence and focus on the needs of top-end companies like Chesapeake, we were able to deliver the right solution through the Performance Series design. Chesapeake is a company who drives to deliver the best solutions for their customers every day, and we are delighted that Mark Andy was able to develop a performance-driven machine that meets their needs. From the beginning, we have worked closely with Chesapeake to create the configurations that support their operational goals and will drive performance for several years to come.”

This installation continues to reinforce the success of the Performance Series press line by Mark Andy. More than 30 Performance Series machines have been sold since its launch late last year. With the addition of the model P5 in early 2010, and the P3 to be introduced later this year, Mark Andy is looking to reinvent the narrow web workflow for converters in all regions of the world. The various model levels were developed for different application needs and investments levels.
