With their new labelling system XbeltTM, Multivac subsidiary MR Etikettiertechnik sets new standards in terms of hygiene, ease of operation and safety. Moreover, the
labeller can be perfectly integrated into high-speed thermoformers, requires only a minimum of space and reduces energy consumption.
In recent years, ongoing development has continued to improve thermoformers. In equal measure, the demands on the labelling systems have increased. With the new, patented labeller XbeltTM, Multivac subsidiary MR sets a new labelling standard for thermoformed
packages with even surfaces. With this new technology, the labels are dispensed onto a transport belt running crosswise over the packaging machine. From there they are moved to a transfer belt in the desired pack arrangement. With the next film feed, all the labels for a complete format are applied to the packs in a single pass.
The XbeltTM has been designed to meet the strict hygiene requirements of legal regulations and industrial standards. The sloping surfaces ensure that water runs off, hollow components are hermetically sealed and there are no corners where dirt may accumulate. In addition, the Xbelt™ does not require vacuum boxes. With conventional cross web labellers, these vacuum boxes are used to hold the labels by means of suction before they are finally applied. They cause constant air movement and are difficult to clean. Using the technology of the new Xbelt™, vacuum boxes are made redundant. This does not only set new standards in terms of hygiene, it also renders the Xbelt™ extremely energy-efficient as it requires only 10 percent of the compressed air consumption of
conventional cross web labellers.
No shifting movements necessary
Since the XbeltTM applies a complete label format in one pass, no shift movements are necessary. This is also an advantage with regard to safety, since no large masses have to be moved. Noise emission is also minimal. Modern drive technology with servo motors ensures highest speeds and maximum precision. This allows the Xbelt™ to keep up with
the cycle rates of modern high-performance packaging lines. Since the Xbelt™ labeller is mounted stationary on the packaging machine, it is extremely space-saving. The fact that there are no shift movements eliminates the need for safety clearances that are usually necessary.
The XbeltTM is perfectly integrated into the processes of the Multivac thermoform packaging machine. The speed of the transfer belt for example automatically adapts to the speed of the film advance.
Convenience and safety thanks to graphic user interface Both for integration into a thermoforming line from Multivac as well as for mounting onto the thermoformers of other suppliers, the Xbelt™ comes equipped with the user interface HMI 2.0 from Multivac which has been designed according to the latest ergonomic principles. The visual display of the current status helps to check and, if necessary, change parameter settings quickly. The intuitive touch display makes the system easy to use even by semi-skilled operators.
The XbeltTM can presently be supplied in two versions. The model MR650 OP applies labels onto the top, the model MR660 UP onto the base. A „Twin“ version of the Xbelt™ will be available in the near future for zero downtime labelling within a very small space. This version operates with 2 label dispensers; change-over from one to the other will be possible within one row of packs.
The XbeltTM is the standard future solution for labelling on thermoformers, especially if a high level of hygiene and top performance are required.
About MR Etikettiertechnik
Established in 1972 in the German town of Enger, North Rhine Westphalia, MR Etikettiertechnik is one of the leading manufacturers of labelling and direct web printing systems. MR joined the Multivac Group in 1993. Since 2006, it has been the centre of expertise for printing technology within the group. Its product portfolio extends from manual label dispensers through to customized special machines. It also includes inspection systems, for foreign body detection for example, which are integrated into packaging
lines. Employing over 140 highly trained staff, MR generated an annual sale of around 23 million euros in 2009. Thanks to an international presence through its distribution partners and its position within the Multivac Group, the world leader in thermoformers, MR can offer a fast and reliable customer support service, encompassing consultancy, training and
servicing.
