TOPAS Advanced Polymers to Showcase Broad Line of Cyclic Olefin Copolymers at K Show

TOPAS Advanced Polymers will showcase its versatile line of cyclic olefin copolymers (COCs) at the 18th International Trade Fair for Plastics and Rubber (K show 2010) in Düsseldorf, Germany, which runs Oct. 27-Nov.3. K show visitors can learn about the latest innovations in materials technology and application development at TOPAS’ stand in Hall 08A/C28. The company also launched a dedicated K show web site (www.topas-k-2010.com) which provides the latest company updates.

TOPAS’ unique manufacturing technologies are enabling the development of new
COC grades with a range of useful performance capabilities. These consist of elastomeric
materials, advanced compounds, and resins with an HDT nearing 200°C.
A unique development is a TPE resin featuring the exceptional purity of TOPAS
COC, plus the flexibility of an elastomer. Key target areas are healthcare and
overmolding applications.

The TOPAS COC family consists of amorphous, transparent copolymers based on
cyclic olefins and linear olefins. These new materials exhibit a unique combination
of properties that can be customized by varying the chemical structure of the copolymer.
TOPAS COCs provide high transparency, outstanding moisture barrier, high rigidity and
strength, excellent biocompatibility, and good electrical insulation properties. This unique
combination of properties has resulted in many breakthrough applications in medical
devices, diagnostics, food and pharmaceutical packaging, optics, and electronics.
TOPAS Advanced Polymers is a joint venture of Daicel Chemical Industries Ltd.,
and Polyplastics Co., Ltd. Headquartered in Frankfurt, Germany, it has a U.S. subsidiary
in Florence, Ky., and operates a 30,000-metric ton/year COC plant, the world’s largest, in
Oberhausen, Germany. TOPAS Advanced Polymers was launched in 2006 following the
purchase of the TOPAS business from Ticona, a subsidiary of Celanese Corp. The K
show appearance is TOPAS Advanced Polymers’ first participation as an independent
company.
