The market for tubes can be split into hard and soft tubes. The hard cylindrical tube is used for, among other things, vitamins and other effervescent tablets, silicone cartridges, etc. The soft squeeze tubes, which are also cylindrical before being filled and sealed, are mainly found in the cosmetics sector (gel, shampoo, hand cream, etc.) as well as in the food segment (dressings, sauces, etc.). Where the hard cylindrical tubes are concerned, most are produced by injection-moulding. This contrasts with the flexible tubes, most of which are produced by extrusion.
New trend
Thanks to, among other things, the emergence of new techniques in the field of injection-moulding and mould construction, more and more flexible tubes are being produced using injection-moulding.
There are currently several traditional techniques for decorating the tubes, such as direct printing, sleeves or self-adhesive labels. Now both hard and flexible tubes can be injection-moulded, the way is also open to IML decoration for these tubes!
Certainly in the cosmetics segment, where the quality of visuals and decoration is extremely important, IML can and will play a major role.
Benefits
The specific benefits of IML on tubes are:
- High-quality photos
- 360° decoration
- Decoration across the entire length of the tube
- Mono-packaging
- Metallic effects!
- Efficient way of producing and decorating
To take maximum advantage of IML and achieve a perfect end-result, most customers choose not to leave any space between both ends of the label. The label therefore has to be seamless, with no overlaps or gaps! It is clear that the dimensions of the label and their tolerances are extremely important. By finishing the labels in a specific and extremely precise way, we ensure that the above conditions are met at all times. Just as with other IML packaging, customers can choose from our entire range of films: orange peel, glossy white, transparent, high gloss, metallic. In short, anything is possible to take your tubes to a higher level!
