November, 2010. Walthamstow based Bakers Self Adhesive Labels Ltd., has announced the purchase of a Digicon Series 2 label converting line from AB Graphic International. The system will be used to convert digitally printed labels and complements an existing HP WS 6000 digital printer. The purchase is part of the company's on-going investment strategy to be the number one supplier of choice to trade printers for the digital label market.
States Steve Baker, Managing Director, "After increasing our digital capacity by investing in the UK's first HP WS6000 last year, we quickly realised that there was a growing demand for much larger labels with multiple texts that ideally suited digital printing. We are also aware that standard digital labels are fast becoming a commodity item with the profit per job suffering accordingly. Our trade customers will now benefit from being able to offer extended length digitally printed labels with extra decorative options such as hot foiling, rotary embossing and other features while maintaining reasonable profit levels. The investment will also provide the opportunity for trade Customers to enter new market segments such as digitally printed labels for paint cans, large tubs, wrap labels and larger sheet designs."
"We are constantly looking for ways we can use the digital process to maximise added value for our Customers. We are producing more multi-part labels with variable data and images on the adhesive or in peel and reveal applications using the second pass facility. Double sided labels/mailers with personalised information are also easily possible."
The Omega Digicon Series 2 specification has oversized cylinders allowing up to 647mm repeats for larger labels. Additional features include corona treater, two flexo printing stations with UV curing, an over laminating module, and a rotary embossing unit. "Baker Self Adhesive Labels is an extremely innovative and progressive company," adds Mark Hyde of AB Graphic International. "They had identified a new market sector for digital and an opportunity to offer larger labels for a variety of applications. We were able to up-grade the flexo and die cutting systems on the Digicon Series 2 to enable 647mm repeats and this also allows a faster running speed to match the HP WS6000."
Established in 1973, Baker Self Adhesive Label Co. Ltd. prints and converts labels using flexography, letterpress or digital printing technology and also offers screen and wide format digital print capability. Material supply and coating are also an integral part of the company's operation and its affiliated company Baker Self Adhesive Materials is an official HP Indigo Treatment Centre and the official distribution centre for Fasson, Madico, Arjobex and Tyvek. Based in London, England, the company serves an international customer base and is a key supplier to both privately owned and blue chip companies and groups throughout the UK and Europe.
