OPEN DAY MARKS CCL LABEL ASHFORD INVESTMENT

On 12th October, the UK’s Healthcare & Specialty site, CCL Label Ashford, opened its doors to invited customers and suppliers. 16 customers from across the Pharmaceutical, Clinical Trials and Agrochemical industries attended along with 9 suppliers.

The Ashford site, formally Inprint, was acquired by CCL Label in 2005. Renewed success had resulted in a busy but cramped site, so in 2008 construction work for expansion began with 2009 providing an additional 1,600 sq m of production space.

2010 marked the finalisation with space and order restored and an improved workflow around the factory.  As well as the extension, the investment has bought new machinery and systems in the form of additional Litho and Flexo presses, new guillotine, folding and application machines as well as pre-press, colour management, Braille and inspection systems.

The investment has had many benefits, from a greater capability on existing products and the ability to produce more complex products more efficiently, to an overall increased capacity in all areas and enhanced control over quality and repeatability.

In order to mark these changes the Open Day provided the opportunity to present the updated facility to customers and showcase the sites capabilities.

Glynn Moyles, UK Sales Manager noted ‘Some customers would not have seen the site for a few years so it was good for them to see such a huge change not just in terms of the machinery but the facility itself.’

Throughout the day customers could tour the production floor with demonstrations by staff on each machine area of the factory.  They were shown the total process flow of products produced from artwork reproduction to final inspection and product release. Giving customers a greater understanding of our labelling options available and the production methods involved.

Stuart Morel, Ashford’s General Manager, added ‘We received many positive comments on our site, products and most importantly our staff with remarks like “knowledgeable in answering questions” and “enthused about what they are doing” ‘.

The investment in the Ashford facility will continue.  An exciting and ambitious plan for their Pharmaceutical labelling business, which will receive significant investment throughout 2011/2012, will ensure the site meets customers’ needs and that they continue to be at the forefront of Healthcare labelling solutions.
