CCL Label Castleford has been selected as the launch site in Europe for Genesis, a project which is designed to improve service and supply levels across the company.
The initiative follows on from Genesis’ successful introduction in the US last year, where its results have been applauded by major customers such as P&G and Unilever. This success has now set the benchmark for CCL globally, and the long term aim is to introduce Genesis to all the company’s sites in Europe, with Castleford to be positioned as the industry benchmark.
The Genesis Project, which will involve all employees, is headed up at Castleford by Chris Lyon, Supply Chain Manager, and incorporates a number of objectives.
The order to delivery process is to be streamlined through effective IT systems and supply chain management, with the aim being to become a totally paperless site. Productivity will be improved through the continued implementation of Lean Manufacturing, 5S and SMED principles, and communication will be enhanced across the business to develop a family-style work culture while still maintaining a highly professional approach in line with CCL Label’s global market leader status.
New business and innovations will also be developed through the work of the New Business Development (NBD) team which has two aims. Firstly, to adopt a ‘right first time’ strategy to new business, ensuring that all business won is successfully project managed from start to finish, and that customer needs and expectations are met in the most economic and cost-effective way.
In addition, the NBD team will create innovative new label solutions which will continue to differentiate CCL Castleford in the market, and support the sales team in winning new business. This will lead to the continued success of the business and promote further investment in facilities and new machinery.
Another efficiency initiative to be implemented is Shop Floor Data Collection (SFDC), which will provide real time data so that the status of any job across the business can be identified at any time. It will also mean that manual timesheets can be phased out. SFDC will be fitted to all presses and finishing machines with display screens located throughout the site.
Chris Lyon commented, “Genesis is a very exciting project which has already produced significant results in the US. We are delighted that Castleford has been chosen as the launch site to roll the programme out across Europe, and look forward to working closely together as a team to bring the many rewards of this project both to the business and our customers.”
