Xeikon appoints MDP to distribute Xeikon 3000 Series in Iberia

Xeikon 3500 introduced to Spanish market at Graphispag 2011 on stand D752, Hall P3

Xeikon is pleased to announce that MDP, a leading supplier of label printing equipment in Spain and Portugal, has expanded its portfolio to include Xeikon’s digital label presses. Recognizing the growing trend for smaller run lengths and just-in-time label printing, MDP will now offer the Xeikon 3000 Series, a portfolio of four digital presses developed specifically for the label market. MDP will join Xeikon at the upcoming Graphispag 2011, the largest graphical show in Spain, which takes place in Barcelona from 22–26 May, 2011. Xeikon’s flagship label printer, the Xeikon 3500, will be shown for the first time to the Spanish market at the show.

“The appointment of MDP as our distributor for the industrial market is part of our strategy to appoint dedicated sales channels for our focus markets,” says Hans Gerinckx, Sales Director Xeikon Industrial Printing. “We are very pleased to have MDP as our partner in Iberia. They are well respected by their customers and have extensive experience in this market.”

“We keep a close eye on the market and have recognized a clear trend towards smaller run lengths and just-in-time delivery. More and more print buyers are just buying what they need for the coming month rather than committing to a yearly volume,” says Jordi Grau, Executive Director at MDP. “This reduces their working capital and provides much more flexibility in product decoration. To meet this demand, we felt it was necessary to add digital presses to our portfolio so we can offer our customers the best of both worlds.”

“We’ve been monitoring Xeikon for several years,” adds Josep Balcells, founding member of the company and Sales Director for the Label Industry specialized in labels. “With the introduction of the Xeikon 3300 at drupa 2008 a new era in the label market started. Since then Xeikon has created an impressive portfolio of dedicated products for this market. Their Xeikon 3000 Series offers a broad range running from entry-level to high-end presses,” he explains. “The introduction of their QA-I toner, the first dedicated digital toner for label printing, was also an important milestone. This convinced us that Xeikon would be the best partner for us and our customers.”

In a class of its own

Following the new distribution agreement, MDP will present the Xeikon 3500 at Graphispag 2011 on stand D752 in hall P3. The Xeikon 3500 press outclasses any digital label press currently on the market. Its ability to handle web widths from 250 to 516 mm at a print speed of 19,2 m/min – regardless of the amount of colors used or label dimensions – makes it the most productive digital label press on the market today. Equipped with the Xeikon high-precision LED-based imaging head, the Xeikon 3500 features true 1200 dpi resolution and 1200 x 3600 dpi addressability with variable dot density, generating excellent image quality.

The press is standard-equipped with 5 color stations, 4 for the standard process colors while the 5th allows the use of spot colors. The press can also apply a ‘one-pass’ opaque white to create a desired ‘no-label look’ on transparent labels as well as a special security toner for anti-counterfeiting applications.

Food approved and delivering unmatched levels of light fastness

As with all the models in the 3000 series, the Xeikon 3500 can print on an unmatched range of substrates including various self adhesive materials such as co-extruded films, Bopp and PET, paperboards and paper with weights ranging from 40 to 350 gsm, and transparent and opaque foils. The printer utilizes Xeikon’s new QA-I toner, which meets all the applicable FDA guidelines for indirect food contact under room temperature as well as direct food contact for dry food substances containing no surface oil or fat. QA-I toners also deliver levels of light fastness far exceeding others on the market today.

Full line-up of dedicated digital label presses

The other members of the Xeikon 3000 Series which MDP will offer are:

  • Xeikon 3030, an entry-level press with the latest engine enhancements, maximum 330 mm width and 9,6 m/min speed.
  • Xeikon 3050, an entry-level press with the latest engine enhancements, capable of printing on scalable web widths from 330 mm up to 516 mm width at a speed of 9,6 m/min.
  • Xeikon 3300, Xeikon’s award winning and best selling high-volume label press built for use with the most common web width of 330 mm, but also capable of handling a web width as narrow as 200 mm, running at speeds up to 19,2 m/min.
