FLEXcon, a leading manufacturer of pressure-sensitive films, today announced it has been recognized by The Massachusetts Department of transportation (MassDOT) as a recipient of a 2011 Massachusetts Excellence in Commuter Options (ECO) award, in the Leadership category. Annually, MassDOT recognizes employer's efforts toward creating a more sustainable Massachusetts. FLEXcon was recognized for launching its Ride Share program, designed to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions through decreased drive-alone trips.
FLEXcon launched its Ride Share program to encourage employees to carpool by rewarding gas cards on a quarterly basis, to employees who rideshare at least 50 percent of each quarter. Participating employees are also incentivized with alternative work schedules, preferential parking spaces, commuter transportation events, and entry into an end of the year gas card drawings. FLEXcon has partnered with MassRIDES to offer employees the Guaranteed/ Emergency Ride Home Program, which assures participants a ride home should an emergency arise during the day.

MassDOT, through MassRIDES, the statewide travel options program, and MassCommute, the Massachusetts Council of Transportation Management Associations (TMA), supports Massachusetts employers in their efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through decreased drive-alone trips while encouraging employees to travel to work by transit, carpools, vanpools, by bicycling or walking, or through support of telework programs.
