Digital Braille Printing On Demand.

A co-ordinated system of specially designed print head, sophisticated operating concept and quality assurance system integrated into the concept forms a solution that covers all demands of modern pharmacy packaging production.

The positive customer reaction to the 20 Braille printing systems delivered so far prompted Baumer hhs to develop a print head - the Xdot - that is specially designed for the printing of double-line Braille. In doing so, the developers were able to fall back on their wealth of experience from the well-known, reliable and fast-clocked glue application systems on state of the art packaging machines. The result is a sturdy system which, in terms of reliability and reproducibility, exceeds the performances of the digital Braille printing systems that have been available on the market until now.

The ergonomic, sophisticated control software makes child's play of the operation. The Braille printing system can be programmed simply with just a few logically comprehensible pushes of a button. Texts can be entered via the touchscreen in plain text and are converted immediately into the Braille typeface Marburg Medium.

Of course, certified data and texts can be read in via the optional import interface for sensus or XML data. The system thus prevents incorrect manual entries by the operator.
The optionally available camera system checks the presence and adequate height of the printed Braille dots. The result is a PDF protocol of each job that provides information about the product quality attained in the sense of good manufacturing practice. The control system is also available for other production environments and is used, for example, in fast-running printing machines for checking the embossed Braille dots.

Products that are otherwise difficult to print with Braille can be printed outstandingly well with the digital Braille printing system. Additionally applied Braille labels can be dispensed with. Even multi-layer booklet labels with all of their height differences do not present a problem to the Braille printing system. The system can also be integrated into packaging lines. In this case the printed data can still be supplemented by non-obligatory current facts, such as the date of manufacture.

However, financial aspects also speak for the Xdot system. Depending on the scope of the Xdot Braille printing system, it compares favourably to Braille printing using a rotary screen printer due to the savings on screens and setup costs alone. After 150-300 different Braille applications in a year, the system achieves return of investment within a year due to the reduction of consumables and setup costs alone. The large variety of different production conditions does not allow any general answer to be given to the question of profitability, hence Baumer hhs offers to determine the profitability of the system under your conditions together with you.

In addition, the Xdot system offers maximum flexibility. In particular, the large number of different country-specific Braille characteristics requires fast adaptation to the respective national version. This can be done simply at the push of a button with the Xdot Braille printing system.

The system is ideal for digital label production. The switching of systems - here digital label production, there conventional finishing - is avoided. Everything is digitally controllable and the digital workflow is retained.

The normative requirements are fulfilled and, in many points, exceeded by the Xdot system. The height of the Braille dots can be felt to be higher than with conventional screen printing production. Dot heights of 0.35mm are securely and reproducibly attainable. This is an aspect that will please many associations for the blind, because a higher height contrast enables blind people with a less sensitive sense of touch to better recognise Braille.

Baumer hhs invites all prospective customers to Labelexpo 2011 in Brussels, Booth 12U80 in Hall 12. A live presentation of the system is a fixture of the trade fair appearance. The appearance is rounded off by solutions for the effective and fast-clocked application of glue especially for label printing.
