Pressure sensitive adhesives and UV coatings for the label industry

Henkel will be presenting innovative pressure-sensitive adhesives, UV coatings and lacquers at the international trade fair Labelexpo Europe 2011 in Brussels from September 28 to October 1, 2011. A wide product range including “no label look” and squeezable labels as well as delivery note pockets and low temperature applications, offers diverse solutions that fit any individual need. These will be presented by Henkel’s commercial and technical team. For the label industry, Henkel will be showcasing the latest innovative adhesive solutions for general, removable and alkali wash off labels. Also part of Henkel’s portfolio at the Labelexpo Europe are UV coatings and lacquers, including the radiant metallic gloss MiraFoil, which gives surfaces a brilliant finish.

As technologies for the label market are constantly evolving, Henkel offers a wide range of innovative, cost-effective pressure-sensitive adhesive solutions for label applications. In the rapidly changing label market, many converters not only print labels, but offer label and packing solutions too. Henkel has therefore developed a broad range of products: adhesives for permanent, repositionable and direct food contact applications, as well as high-tack adhesives suitable for a variety of difficult surfaces.

Strength and durability for general purpose applications with Duro-TAK
Duro-TAK adhesives are noted for their strength and durability under adverse conditions, and are able to withstand rough weather conditions and chemical exposure. The adhesive Duro-TAK UV 4000 is well balanced in adhesion and cohesion and stands out due to its suitability for nonpolar substrates. Duro-TAK UV 4000 has a relatively low viscosity and can be easily processed. Moreover, another benefit of this innovative adhesive is its high heat and environmental resistance.

Removable application and bottle labeling with Technocure

  • Removable application: Technocure PS 4116 is the product of choice when a removable label is required. A special benefit of the adhesive is its suitability for labeling resealable packs. This innovative UV labeling adhesive assures the same secure adhesion and easy peelability over time.
  • Excellent adhesion to glass: For bottle labeling, Henkel’s experts have developed the UV pressure sensitive adhesive Technocure PS 4105, which is an alkali wash-off product. It is easily cuttable and bonds strongly to glass.
  • Special solutions for special labels: For multilayer labels, promotional labels or stickers and coupons, Henkel has developed innovative solutions for high tack printable adhesives: Technocure PS 4901 and 4907. They are printable at ambient temperature and UV-curing, and also suitable for heat-sensitive materials. Standard printing technology can be used, so that there is no need to invest in adhesive equipment. Technocure PS 4901 and 4907 are  solvent-free, 100 percent solids technologies, using adapted high speed curing and creating good pressure sensitive film characteristics.

Brilliant metallic gloss with MiraFoil
For creating outstanding finishes on surfaces, Henkel’s product portfolio includes matt, gloss and 3D-effect coatings for use with flexo or screen printing techniques. Henkel’s newest innovation, the metallic effect MiraFoil coating contains highly reflective, micro-fine aluminum flakes and gives paper and substrates a radiant appearance similar to that of a silver foil. The UV-curing lacquer is available in silver, gold and copper and is perfectly overprintable, either in-line or off-line. MiraFoil creates an impressive visual impact and metallic color, which can be applied for instance on cartons, packaging, labels and many other applications. MiraFoil satisfies even the highest demands while meeting all expectations of a modern effect lacquer in terms of both economics and ecology.
