Nilpeter's Press Technology a Major Draw at an Up-Beat LabelExpo

Like many other exhibitors, Nilpeter did not know what to fully expect at LabelExpo Europe 2011 held recently in Brussels. Yet, despite continuing global recessionary problems, the four-day label and packaging show attracted a record-breaking attendance for LabelExpo events. The general optimism certainly extended to the Danish press manufacturer. It received firm orders for 22 presses and some major order enquiries. With the overall theme, 'We show you how', the company introduced innovations for offset, flexo, and integrated InkJet printing. The daily programme of demonstrations for each of the four presses displayed were well-attended.
'Before LabelExpo Europe opened we really didn't know what to expect, but it proved good value for us. The orders we took were evenly distributed over the range of presses displayed. They also came from a good geographical spread of new customers. In fact, we had visitors from all over the world. It was therefore a very positive and busy event that exceeded our expectations, said Jakob Landberg, Sales Director.

The Main Attractions

  • New Press Management Center (PMC) for the MO-4
Nilpeter's new PMC-control centre was shown with a 7-unit MO-4 offset platform press. It has three 17-inch touch screens for accurate control over UV-curing, electronic registration and remote ink control. Other features include error diagnostics backed by an online service function, job management data and online customer information. PMC is compatible with the international CIP3 operating standard. The 4th generation MO-4 has a web width of 420 mm (16.5 inches) and features a lightweight sleeve system for handling both long and short runs of premium-quality labels and packaging products. Configurations can include offset, flexo, hot/cold foil, rotary screen, or gravure print units. Like other Nilpeter presses, the MO-4 can also include HoloPrint for producing print-registered holograms for brand security or promotional applications using a UV-cured varnish technique.

  • New CLEANINKING and Revolver die-cutting modules on the FB-Line
An 8-colour servo-driven FB-3300 S UV-flexo press ran with Nilpeter's new CLEANINKING flexo system, with an open/close doctor blade chamber for obtaining clean and easy job changes. The system enables storage of ink in the chambers off press – totally sealed. The label and packaging press also included the new Revolver Die System, based on the SMED concept (Single Minute Exchange of Die). It allows operators to load successive solid tooling, or magnetic flexible die plate cylinders, into the module while the press is running and index them within seconds during job change. Both new systems are available for the entire Nilpeter product portfolio.

  • European debut for the FA-6 packaging press
With a maximum web width of 570 mm (22.5 inches) the FA-6 is aimed at the many worldwide converters specialising in offering ‘one-stop’ label and packaging services to brand owners and packaging contractors. The presses can run with both UV-curing units and ex-proof hot air driers for producing various film packaging, labels, and carton board products.

  • CASLON InkJet module inline with UV-flexo printing
Nilpeter demonstrated a modular CASLON CMYK InkJet module printing high quality paper and filmic labels. The 340 mm wide press line also included three FA-3 UV-flexo units – for printing varnishes, solid colours, and/or white opaque inks for filmic labels – as well as inline rotary die-cutting. Automatic registration covered all processes. A Nilpeter VDP (Variable Data Printing) system handled serial numbering on individual labels. The single-pass CASLON module uses Xaar’s 1001 greyscale print heads for variable data printing on the fly, or printing single copies of full-colour labels. InkJet speeds vary from up to 50.7 m/min. at 180 x 360 dpi to 12.6 m/min. at 720 x 360 dpi resolution. The modules can also run in a stand-alone mode with separate unwind and rewind units.
