EUROPEN Appoints New Managing Director

EUROPEN, the European Organization for Packaging and the Environment, has announced the appointment of Véronique Bagge as its new Managing Director.

Ms Bagge, a French citizen and Brussels resident, will take up the post at the Brussels secretariat of EUROPEN on 2 January 2012. She has previously worked in the toy industry and for the European Commission and the European Parliament.

 

Until earlier this year Véronique Bagge was Group Sustainability Manager for the Danish Toy retail group TOP-TOY Ltd. Based in its Hong Kong buying office which manages purchasing for its European retail stores BR and TOYS “R” US, Ms Bagge was responsible for Group sustainability policy and CSR strategy. Her work included leading the company’s European CSR team in developing the strategic sustainability agenda, developing and communicating the Group’s sustainability report according to UNGC and GRI standards, designing a sustainability communications plan for the Group’s customers and employees and leading a team of inspectors conducting ethical audits throughout Asia. Before joining TOP-TOY Ms Bagge worked in Hong Kong as a marketing and export consultant for Belgian and Danish based consultancies.


Prior to working in industry with the toy sector Ms Bagge worked in Brussels, initially as a trade advisor with the Danish Embassy, followed by 5 years in the European Parliament as head of a political secretariat reporting to a Danish MEP, then for 7 years with the European Commission External Relations Directorate as a budget and financial officer.


Fluent in French, English and Danish, Ms Bagge was educated in Denmark and the UK, has a Masters Degree in Economics from the University of Odense, Denmark and a post university degree in International Trade from Copenhagen Commercial College.


In announcing the appointment of Véronique Bagge, EUROPEN’s Chairman John Swift of SCA Packaging said “I am delighted that that we can welcome Véronique Bagge as our new Managing Director and I believe her to be eminently suitable for this challenging position.”
Véronique Bagge succeeds Julian Carroll who has served for 19 years as EUROPEN’s Managing Director since the organization opened its Brussels office in 1993. Mr Carroll will now continue work as a specialist consultant on packaging sustainability and trade association management.
