Turnover of PakMarkas increased due to new engineering solutions

During the first nine months of this year consolidated turnover of the packaging and marking solutions company PakMarkas increased by 10.4% compared with same period in 2010 and amounted to LTL 41.3m. In January to September the design and production of the equipment and sales of packaging and marking equipment resulted in the biggest increase in revenues, i.e. 43%. Export range of the company this year increased by 17.2%, as well.

'We have extensive experience in design and installation of the packaging equipment, so we more bravely have ventured into new activities – production of the custom-made equipment. It makes sense for companies when purchasing a device that meets their needs is very complicated or too expensive, says Virginijus Gumbaragis, Director General of UAB PakMarkas. In addition, we proposed another new service – equipment restoration, because some producers buy second-hand equipment that has to be upgraded. We may claim that it is the new activities that contributed to the growth of the Engineering Department at the largest scale.' According to Mr. Gumbaragis, as much as 25% of the engineering contracts signed from the beginning of the year are orders for custom-made products.

According to the head of the company, economic downturn forced companies to review their manufactured products more critically and refuse wasteful use of materials; therefore, cost-efficient solutions will continue to dominate for a while. 'Not all the possibilities have been exhausted to find the package that is both economical and eco-friendly, and highlights good features of the product,' Mr Gumbaragis asserts. According to him, the market recovery is already evident: in comparison with last year and the year before, when companies almost have not allocated funds for renewal of the production base, currently small development projects are being implemented.

Since 1994, acting as a provider of the self-adhesive label and package printing services and a seller of the packaging and marking equipment and its components, the company PakMarkas operates in Lithuania and Latvia. In 2005 the company became a member of the global network of socially responsible businesses 'Global Compact' and undertook to perform its activities in accordance with the principles of human rights, rights of the employees and environment protection, as well as not to contribute to the spread of corruption. In 2009, UAB PakMarkas was acknowledged as the Employer of the Year in the category of small and medium-sized businesses by the Ministry of Social Security and Labour, the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Lithuania under the United Nations Development Programme in Lithuania.
