New KODAK NEXPRESS Fifth Imaging Unit Solutions and Inline UV Coating Continue Leadership in Print Applications
Kodak is creating a new gold standard in digital print for its KODAK NEXPRESS Digital Production Color Presses with new Fifth Imaging Unit Solutions that enable true gold printing effects. The new gold print solution will be shown running at the Kodak stand (Hall 5, F09-1) at drupa, accompanied by samples of the pearlescent and neon pink options that will be available as Fifth Imaging Unit Solutions as well. Also shown at drupa will be the new inline UV coating capability as well as the long-sheet high-capacity delivery, photobook finishing options, and the ability for a high-speed NEXPRESS SX3900 Press to produce dimensional and MICR printing.
The new gold, pearlescent, and neon print solutions expand application possibilities, enabling providers to print more jobs for current customers or pursue new customers and markets. By adding eye-catching colors and effects, marketers capture their audience more effectively and generate a much higher response.
“With the NEXPRESS Platform, we are committed to delivering best-in-class photographic image quality, providing differentiated solutions that set print providers apart from competitors, and maintaining the value of investments by enabling upgrades to greater speed and the latest feature set,” explained Doug Edwards, Kodak’s President of Digital and Functional Printing. “Customers amaze us with the unique applications they are producing, and some of these new developments will no doubt expand those applications even further.”
One of the major advantages of NEXPRESS Presses is the upgradability, which makes it easy for customers to invest in a solution that meets their current needs and can grow as their businesses expand. All of the new features that will be shown at drupa can be added as upgrades to most previous machines, protecting customers’ investments and making it easy to design the ideal solution.
The new inline UV coating solution is made possible with the TEC LIGHTING TRUCOAT UV Coater. Customers have a choice of either an inline simplex or inline automatic duplex coater. Offering both a high gloss and a satin finish, this coater complements the range of coating solutions that are already available with the NEXPRESS Press and can be used with other Fifth Imaging Unit Solutions, such as gamut expansion, red fluorescing, and light black, to make prints stand out even more.
The recently introduced long-sheet option (26″/660 mm) delivers 27 percent more printable area, and the new high-capacity delivery that will be shown at drupa makes it easy to handle and move those sheets for post-production processes. The benefits of the longer sheet include reduced waste and increased productivity, and enable new applications such as six-page brochures, posters, larger dust jackets for books, and a variety of packaging applications.
Kodak will be working with Unibind at drupa to demonstrate photobook finishing with the UNIBIND CASEMAKER 650M and UNIBIND RESIN STEELBINDING Equipment. Photo products is a rapidly growing market for many print providers, and the KODAK NEXPRESS Digital Production Color Press—which achieved an overall highest rating in photographic print quality in an independent study recently completed by the SpencerLab Digital Color Laboratory—is the ideal solution for photographic digital printing needs.
The high-speed NEXPRESS SX3900 Press, the most productive press in the platform, can now print the full range of high-value solutions for which the NEXPRESS Press is noted, including printing dimensional at 83 ppm and MICR at 100 ppm.
All NEXPRESS Presses feature Print Genius, a suite of productivity and quality control tools and options that automate tasks and help users maintain peak quality throughout their production run. The Print Genius quality suite encompasses hardware, software, and material science innovations to optimize quality and consistency from the first sheet to the last, day after day.
“The NEXPRESS Platform is one of the most robust, scalable solutions available today,” added Edwards. “Our focus is on offering a diverse portfolio of solutions to give customers all the options they need to stay competitive. We call it ‘Digital Your Way,’ and it reflects our commitment to being a true partner, listening to our customers and developing products that deliver exactly what they need.”
