Presstek to Unveil Innovative New Products at drupa 2012

Presstek, Inc. (NASDAQ: PRST), a leading supplier of digital offset printing solutions to the printing and communications industries, today announced that it will be introducing two exciting new products at drupa 2012, scheduled to begin May 3rd at Messe Dusseldorf. In addition to new products being unveiled, the Presstek 75DI, a revolutionary B2 format digital offset press will be the highlight of Presstek’s stand with a large number of scheduled customer demonstrations. The company will also showcase its Presstek 52DI digital offset press and display a wide range of thermal CTP plates. Presstek will be located in Hall 4, Stand B03, at the show.

Continued Heritage of Innovation

At drupa, Presstek plans to announce a new chemistry-free CTP plate for sheetfed and web waterless printing applications. This new plate offers excellent on-press performance and will raise the efficiency of prepress departments by eliminating the time-consuming steps, variables, and costs that are associated with production of other waterless plates. Once imaged, only a simple cleaning with water is required prior to mounting the plates on press.
Presstek will also unveil a new color calibration and defect detection technology during drupa. This breakthrough technology inspects each sheet with the press operating at full speed and makes any necessary adjustments on the fly. This exciting new technology will be demonstrated on the Presstek 75DI at drupa.

Presstek 75DI Showcased at drupa

The Company will be showing a five-color Presstek 75DI digital offset press with in-line aqueous coater on its stand at drupa. The 75DI was first shown at IPEX 2010 as a prototype and is now a commercial product with successful installations on three continents in a variety of shops, including one of the world’s largest commercial printers and one of North America’s largest in-plants. The press has also garnered strong interest from folding carton printers, because of the unique capabilities of the 75DI for applications in this field. The 75DI goes from digital file to sellable sheet in six minutes and prints at 16,000 impressions per hour. It is the most economical press on the market for color jobs with run lengths between 500 and 20,000 impressions, which encompasses the majority of print jobs being run today around the world.
The B2 format Presstek 75DI is available in 4- to 10-color configurations. An in-line aqueous coater and a full range of productivity enhancing options can be added to make the press even more productive. The 75DI features automated support for 300 lpi and FM screening and has a small environmental footprint. Print quality is further enhanced by utilizing waterless printing technology. The 75DI has a maximum sheet size of 788 mm x 600 mm (31.02” x 23.62”), a minimum sheet size of 279 mm x 200 mm (10.98” x 7.87”), and can print on a broad array of stocks ranging from 0.04 mm to 0.8 mm (0.0016” to 0.031”) thick.
“The combination of the 75DI and our new product announcements provide exciting possibilities for Presstek’s existing and future customers, we are looking forward to showing them at drupa,” said Stan Freimuth, Presstek’s Chairman, President & CEO.

Presstek’s Expanded Digital Plate Portfolio Covers Digital Plate Needs for Larger Printers

At drupa 2012, Presstek will also be showcasing its expanded line of thermal CTP plates.
“The Presstek plate portfolio offers solutions that encompass a wide range of printing needs with high quality plates that can be imaged on industry-standard 830 nm thermal platesetters, including Presstek devices,” said Freimuth. “This, combined with our outstanding service and support, has us well positioned to supply larger shops and offers a terrific alternative to the traditional plate suppliers in the market.”
Thermal digital plates from Presstek include:

  • PhD 830: a negative working ablation-free pre-heat thermal plate supporting run lengths of 250,000 without baking and a million plus with an optional post-bake. PhD 830 requires less chemistry, less power, and has a wider pre-heat latitude than competitive plate products. PhD also has high resistance to pressroom chemicals and on-press abrasion.
  • Aeon: a positive-working, high resolution, no-preheat thermal CTP plate that offers run lengths up to 200,000 without baking; an optional post-bake enables runs of up to one million. Aeon has a strong resistance to UV inks and solvents and can be used in both UV and conventional printing without any sacrifice in productivity or quality.
  • Aurora EXP: a true chemistry-free daylight-safe metal plate that can be imaged on a range of thermal platesetters. Aurora is rated up to 50,000 impressions. Its simple chemistry-free process requires only a water wash after imaging with no need for chemistry before mounting on press.

Freimuth concludes, “In addition to having the right products at the right time in a highly competitive and dynamic market, Presstek has a commitment to providing a level of personalized service that is often lacking when dealing with other suppliers. We look forward to discussing our full range of products and services with visitors at drupa.”
