Edale’s aim of promoting their range of printing and converting equipment was successfully achieved at this year’s Drupa event. Despite a somewhat challenging climate, Edale were thrilled to report enquiries were up by almost 30% on the last show held in 2008. There was also a notably higher attendance from International visitors which fitted in with Edale’s export strategy of moving further into the Far East, China and Indian markets.
There was strong interest in Edale’s package printing machines – the Gamma printing and converting system with inline FDC-510; flatbed die cutter drew a lot of attention, and in particular from offset printers who look to move into flexo to gain more flexibility, higher quality, shorter lead times and lower cost equipment.
The Edale Gamma and FDC-510 folding carton line combines the finest flexo print quality alongside flatbed die cutting technologies ensuring that cost effective low volume folding carton production is achieved. The FDC-510 incorporates print, die cut, breakout, delivery and waste chopping making it ideal for short run carton work. The equipment can be re-configured for a wide range of carton sizes and forms without the need for specialist tooling, with cutting tool changeover times in less than 15 minutes.
This focus on narrow web package printing is not a new concept for Edale – in fact they have been the pioneer in development of narrow web flexo presses for packaging, carton and labels – and were in fact the first press manufacturer to launch a dedicated packaging and carton press at Drupa back in 1995!
As well as the packaging machines, there was a lot of interest in the Edale scratch card line for telecom recharge cards, which creates a single pass solution combining multiple manufacturing processes such as graphic printing, scratch off applications, verification and finishing.
Because of the flexibility of the scratch card line, the machine is capable of manufacturing all conceivable formats of single and multi pin cards. This was highlighted by the newly created sample which was circular in shape with multi directional perforations and a number of high security inks including coin reactive – to demonstrate how flexible the machine can be, and all produced in one pass.
