The Dutch label printer, founded in 1992 by Managing Director Jack Willemsz and business partner Leo van Rooy, was presented with the crystal CIPPI Award at the event held at the drupa innovation park Stage 2 (Hall 07 A20), in Düsseldorf, last night (Sunday, May 6th).

The accolade follows W&R Etiketten’s decision to install a second Xeikon 3300 last year and its subsequent collaboration with Esko and CERM to become a world leader in the adoption of JDF in the label industry. The co-operation also took standardization and automation to the highest level. Now the company is a national provider of unprinted and printed labels for a broad range of clients.

W&R Etiketten first invested in digital to meet demand for a greater variety of products with shorter runs as well as on demand production to eliminate the need for brands to store printed work. The Xeikon 3300 was chosen for its ability to deliver high quality at a constant speed. There were also no click charges and W&R Etiketten liked its ‘green machine’ status as it uses more environmentally friendly toners compared to other systems.

The company also understood that with the trend for greater variety and smaller run lengths, the number of jobs required to keep turnover at the same level had to be increased while account managers still needed the same amount of time to manage each order. As a result CERM and Esko combined expertise to provide a total solution for the label industry.  It ensures all job information is entered once and used throughout the whole production process. It also helped expand W&R Etiketten’s internet services to enable customers to submit orders, upload data and track job progress.

What’s more, this solution continues to grow and deliver the most responsive service to help our customers meet the demanding expectations of their market sectors.”

“We are very pleased to see progressive thinking customers like W&R Etiketten rewarded for their creative approach to meeting their customers’ needs,” adds Filip Weymans, Xeikon’s  Segment  Manager Labels & Packaging printing. W&R is truly leading the market in terms of innovation. It is remarkable how they have adopted to a new business process in such short time and with the support of the whole company. They have set a landmark for the label industry making it company for the 21stcentury

Presented annually the CIPPIs (CIP4 International Print Production Innovation) recognize leading printers, publishers or pre-press services that have demonstrated outstanding leadership in the pursuit of process automation through JDF-enabled technology. JDF is the industry specification designed to facilitate process automation and the integration of different applications and systems. The winners are picked by an independent judging panel.
