Edale and Douglas Storrie Labels host a successful FL-350 Open Day

The invite welcomed guests to a ‘Great British Day by the Seaside’ and unfortunately Wednesday 15 August 2012 was typically British, with rain beating down on Douglas Storrie Labels in Lytham-St-Anne’s. Fortunately that was the only gloomy part of the day as inside the factory a Great British themed day was taking place. The day was an opportunity for Douglas Storrie Labels to open the doors to their factory to welcome in existing customers and potential customers to see their newest press, the Edale
FL-350 running a number of different print jobs to show off the press’s capabilities.

Douglas Storrie Labels Sales Manager, Neal Livermore, opened the day by talking of the patriotic fervour that has been sweeping through Britain with the Diamond Jubilee and then welcoming the rest of the World for the Olympics. He continued to say “We need to support British industry and to be proud of British manufacturing and the Edale FL-350 is a gold winning medal winning machine, with cutting edge technology to make printing; better, faster, cheaper

There were three FL-350 machine demonstrations throughout the day, during which Stuart Robinson, Works Manager at Douglas Storrie Labels and Chris Chappel, Edale’s Print Application Engineer ran three different jobs. This was to demonstrate the quality of print, the running speeds and the versatility of the press.

The first job they ran was a four colour process cut sheet sample on gloss laser paper with gold cold foil, in fact Douglas Storrie have had a lot of feedback from the trade that they have never seen a better lay down of foil – which has led to companies asking Douglas Storrie to carry out manufacturing trials for them.

The second job was a job entitled ‘Wuffitmix’, a four colour process label on PP film. This job was the sample that has been entered into this year’s Flexotech awards within the ‘Labels and Tags’ category. The demonstration was able to showcase the range of materials and processes, from paper cut sheets to film labels and the final print job undertaken was on an unsupported film for wrap around packaging.

After the demonstration guests of both Douglas Storrie Labels and Edale settled down for a lunch in the offices upstairs giving a great opportunity to catch up with industry friends and potential customers before having a chance to meet the local mayor of Fylde who had come along to meet Nigel Storrie, Owner of Storrie Labels, who gave a company history and explained why they had decided to buy the first ever FL-350 press.

The FL-350 is a highly versatile servo-driven flexographic printing press, utilising the latest servo technology providing pre-register, auto-register and print length control features to achieve the highest print quality whilst ensuring high speed changeovers, minimum downtime and minimum wastage. The machine employs Edale’s revolutionary Pit Stop Colour Change system which enables operators to complete a full print station colour change in under 70 seconds, and a four colour make ready is achieved in under 10m.

From October 2012, Edale will have a brand new showroom FL-350 press should anybody who missed out on the Open Day wish to see another demonstration.
