Nosco to use new HP Indigo 30000 press for larger volume of customized folding cartons

HP today announced that Nosco , a full-service packaging solutions provider, will be the first U.S. customer for the HP Indigo 30000 Digital Press, HP’s new 29-inch-format, sheet-fed press for folding cartons.

Nosco plans to use the HP Indigo 30000 to extend digital printing to larger order quantities of folding cartons and to produce customized cartons using variable data for serialization, personalization and brand protection.

Nosco, a 106-year-old company based in Gurnee, Ill., serves 350 customers in regulated industries such as pharmaceutical, natural health and personal care. It has been using HP Indigo systems since installing its first press in 2004.

“We will soon be able to offer more digital printing capabilities to our customers, helping them improve cycle time and speed to market, lower inventory and obsolescence, and produce short- to medium-run folding cartons more cost-effectively,” said Russ Haraf, president, Nosco. “Given the increased format size, speed and versatility of the HP Indigo 30000, we can economically produce cartons with a turnaround time of days instead of weeks.”

HP made the announcement in conjunction with Pack Expo 2012, where HP is exhibiting for the third consecutive year to showcase its end-to-end digital solutions for labels, folding cartons and flexible packaging applications. HP’s booth (No. N5540) includes the “HP Indigo Digital Supermarket” displaying top-quality packaging from major brands produced on HP Indigo presses, plus print samples from the next-generation, web-fed HP Indigo 20000 Digital Press for flexible packaging.

HP also will present samples produced on semiporous substrates using the new HP Black 2570 Print Cartridge with solvent ink. The cartridge is designed for industrial applications such as product identification coding and marking, mail addressing, and variable data imprinting.

Today, dozens of HP Indigo customers are producing packaging materials using existing presses such as the HP Indigo WS6600, the industry’s most productive, high-speed digital system for medium-run label and packaging printing. In 2012, more than 22 billion products were packaged using HP Indigo solutions.

The HP Indigo 30000 Digital Press uses the same market-leading, high-quality versatile printing technologies as the HP Indigo WS6000 series, but has a larger format size of 29.5 x 20.9 inches. It is compatible with carton stocks up to 24 pt. thick. The HP Indigo 30000 Digital Press is scheduled to be available for launch customers in late 2013, with general commercial availability in 2014.

“As a leading packaging solutions provider, Nosco recognizes that our new HP Indigo 30000 Digital Press can produce a much broader range of folding cartons and handle a greater volume of print jobs than today’s digital systems,” said Alon Bar-Shany, vice president and general manager, Indigo Division, Graphics Solutions Business, HP. “We expect Nosco and other early HP Indigo 30000 customers will take advantage of the press’s larger format and higher productivity to tap into new market opportunities and continue growing their business.”
