Titan SR9-DT Dual Turret rewinder to boost production for CPC Packaging

The Titan SR9-DT Dual Turret slitter rewinder

Atlas Converting Equipment Ltd. is pleased to confirm that it will provide a 'next generation' Titan SR9-DT Dual Turret slitter rewinder to CPC Packaging, part of the French CPC Group at its CPC Cotentin production facility in La Haye du Puits, approx. 40km south of Cherbourg in Normandy, northern France.

The CPC Group has seven production sites in France and two in Germany which together produce a wide range of flexible materials, folding carton, packaging and label solutions for both food & non-food applications. Established in 1986 by Mr. Jacques Schor, the company has witnessed rapid expansion both through acquisitions and providing successful product packaging solutions for more than 25 years.

"We are delighted to have been selected as a new supplier of slitting & rewinding technology to CPC Cotentin," commented Mr. Barrie Homewood, Sales & Marketing Director for Titan. "We look forward to developing a successful partnership with CPC Group in the future and becoming an important part of the company's future expansion."

During 2012, following expansion of its flexibles and labelling solutions business, CPC Cotentin decided that it was time to replace its ageing slitting equipment with more productive machinery to meet increasing demands on its production capacity. The order for the Titan SR9-DT was confirmed in October last year and installation & commissioning is due for completion during February.

The Titan SR9-DT ordered is a 1650mm wide dual turret rewinder with automatic knife positioning, Servo core positioning and an automatic electronic slit reel unloading system. A new slitting hall is currently planned at the Cotentin site and should be ready by September 2014.

In the meantime, the new Titan SR9-DT will be installed in the existing facility and re-located to the new hall next year.

"With several colleagues at the Drupa 2012 exhibition in Germany last May, we were impressed by the live demonstration of the Titan SR9-DT turret rewinder, running at up to 900 m/min. and could see that it would be the right solution to meet the high volume slitting requirements at our CPC Cotentin plant," explained Mr. Alexander Schulte Derne, Managing Director of CPC Cotentin. "We are looking forward very soon to the start-up of this impressive new machine," he confirmed.

In the development of the Titan SR9 Series, Atlas focused its product development strategy on achieving significant reductions in machine downtime for printers & converters, with lower operator intervention and also reduction of costly waste materials - which all adds up to outstanding gains in productivity and sustainability.

The concept of the Titan SR9 Series technology platform features three separate machine modules of unwind, slitter & rewind sections. The idea being that a converter need only change the rewind section of the machine from a Dual Shaft (DS) to a Single Turret (ST) or Dual Turret (DT) configuration, to meet changing production requirements, without the need to change the existing unwind and slitting modules.

The Titan SR9-DT Dual Turret rewinder was launched at the end of 2011 and the Dual Shaft (DS) module was introduced during 2012. Innovative engineering design has led to the application for three patents on the Titan SR9 Series (one already granted for the Turret Support Device) and has led to significant improvements in the quality of slit reels and significant reductions in set-up procedures.

A newly designed Linear Tracking Slitter (LTS) section ensures the shortest and a constant web length between the knives and the rewind shafts for improved web control giving the highest possible side wall quality of rewind reels and also reducing the possibility of waste material. Many other new features provide exceptional performance and productivity at running speeds of up to 1,000 m/min. The SR9 Series is available in two widths - 1650 and 2250 mm.

To maintain focus on its objectives for sustainability, the Titan SR9 Series has many features for achieving reductions in the cost of energy and of waste materials. Elimination of all hydraulics helps to provide a cleaner environment and the use of high efficiency motors and regenerative braking enables a considerable reduction in energy consumption and makes the SR9 Series the most efficient slitting-rewinding solution in the Titan range.

The Titan SR9 Series is set to smash all productivity records and provides a genuinely flexible and sustainable new approach to slitting and rewinding.
