Xeikon 3000 Series and basysPrint UV-Setter 865x debut at Propak Africa 2013

First demonstration of high-level digital label presses and UV-Setters in Africa .

Xeikon, an innovator in digital color printing, announced today that it will be showing the Xeikon 3030 in a roll to roll configuration at Propak Africa 2013. This will be the first demonstration of one of its Xeikon 3000 Series presses at a major industry event in Africa. Furthermore the basysPrint 865x UV-Setter with increased flexibility will be demonstrated at the show. The equipment will be shown at the booth of Thunderbolt, in Hall 7 stand A14. Thunderbolt is Xeikon’s Southern African dealer for its Xeikon and basysPrint product portfolios. Propak Africa 2013 will be held from March 12 to 15 at the Expo Centre, Nasrec, Johannesburg, South Africa.

The Xeikon 3030 is the entry level press of the Xeikon 3000 Series that consists of five different digital presses designed for the label and packaging market, differing in speed and printing width capability. Along with the other Xeikon 3000 Series models, the Xeikon 3030 utilizes high precision LED-array imaging technology, which combines true 1200 dpi resolution at 4-bit per spot to deliver the finest print quality. Incorporating Xeikon’s unique full rotary printing technology, combined with virtually unlimited variable repeat length, the printing speed of the press is not affected by either the label size or the number of colors being imaged. The Xeikon 3030 can be upgraded in the field, in terms of printing speed and web width.

The Xeikon 3030 is capable of printing on an unrivalled range of substrates, including various self-adhesive materials constructions including co-extruded films, Bopp, PVC and PET, paperboards and paper grades from 40 to 350 gsm, as well as transparent and opaque PET films.

Like all the other members of the Xeikon 3000 Series, the Xeikon 3030 is driven by the X-800 Digital Front-End. Based on open standards, the X-800 can be integrated into any production environment. Its modular set-up allows label printers to manage different production elements in the most efficient manner. Prepress functions, such as impositions and color management, can optionally be performed in the prepress environment, allowing the press operator to focus on production. The X-800 also allows easy inclusion of metadata functionalities, such as sequential numbers and/or barcodes.

“We recently experienced extra interest in our digital printing solutions from the MEA area”, explains Filip Weymans, Director segment marketing and Business development Labels & Packaging, “Xeikon’s live demonstration of the Xeikon 3030 at Propak will enable Southern Africa’s label converters to get up close with digital label printing. Furthermore, the Xeikon 3000 Series can also be used for heat transfer and folding carton applications. This will be explained at the exhibition in Johannesburg.”

In partnership with their local dealer Thunderbolt, basysPrint will also demonstrate how its single cassette UV-Setter 865x offers customers the choice of exposure resolutions of 1500dpi or 2400dpi. They will see how the unique flatbed design enables digital imaging of a wide variety of plate sizes while dual plate loading offers production speeds of up to 145 plates per hour. A key feature is the modular design: customers can start with the basic manual version and easily upgrade to either a semi-automatic or fully-automatic model depending on their needs and demands. Other features include the unique Dynamic Autofocus system that handles plate undulation – even for substrate thicknesses up to 10mm – and a new remote monitoring system allowing management and control via smartphones or tablet-type devices.

The basysPrint UV-Setters deliver increased flexibility and enable additional revenue streams to be generated. Vincent Van Horenbeeck, Area Manager Middle East & Africa explains: “As well as imaging UV plates for offset printing, the UV platesetters have a wide range of uses from imaging coated plates for spot varnish printing to all kinds of screen printing applications and even image dies for flexible die-cutting.”
