North West Labels Invests In BGM High Speed Die Cutting Slitter Rewinder

Co Donegal self-adhesive label manufacturer North West Labels has completed the installation of a Bar Graphic Machinery manufactured high speed die cutting slitter rewinder.

Established in 2006, the family owned business has built up a strong market reputation as a leading manufacturer and supplier to the food processing sector.

James McColgan, Managing Director, of North West labels, comments: “ Supplying the deep sea food sector comes with very stringent Bfr XIV regulations and it is imperative that we use only the very highest quality adhesive to cater for temperatures ranging from -30 deg C to + 60 deg C. The adhesive in itself creates problems when removing the die cut waste matrix. On viewing a number of machine manufacturers Bar Graphic Machinery really did impress, the matrix stripping and rewinding system was outstanding.”

He continues: “With paper prices continually increasing and profit margins further decreasing we are always looking for ways to reduce wastage. BGM’s die matrix waste system fits all its die cutting products and enables us to increase our profit margins by reducing edge waste by at least 80%.

“BGM also demonstrated that the die cutting machine would in fact rewind waste with an edge trim of only 2mm. This was astonishing as the equipment we used required a trim of at least 10mm. Furthermore the die cutting speeds were outstanding achieving speeds of up to 250 metres per minute. The performance and outstanding build quality of the new machine has surpassed our expectations, and from my initial enquiry to receiving installation and training, it has been a delight to deal with Bar Graphic Machinery.”

Bar Graphic Machinery Sales Manager Daniel Carr comments: “We are delighted that North West Labels  has purchased one of our Elite high speed die cutting slitter rewinders, Initially there was some scepticism around whether our die cutting equipment could achieve a waste matrix rewind trim of only 2mm. We demonstrated and proved it could easily be done with the aid of our superior matrix rewind system. Many conventional waste matrix rewinds use a mechanical clutch driven from the machine and this type of waste removal causes limitations on matrix removal especially when a perforation or very fine edge trim allowance is involved. At Bar Graphic Machinery we have greatly reduced this factor by independently driving the waste rewind with an electronic motor with variable tension controlled. In addition to this a waste capstan roller is also equipped with fully adjustable tension control system, making it possible to achieve speeds of up to 250 m / min.
