Italian-based Emmetre reports on significant quality and productivity gains after expanding its production with digital flexo imaging capability. Early 2013, the company installed an Esko CDI Spark 2420 – making it the first printer in Europe to adopt the latest model of Esko's CDI family. Emmetre purchased the CDI Spark 2420 to improve the quality of their labels and to gain more efficiency in the way jobs were managed.

Moreno Berro, Director and Prepress Manager at Emmetre, explains: "We are known as a flexible company, always able to quickly respond to market demands. Our investment in Esko’s CDI Spark 2420 – as the very first one in Europe – demonstrates our high level of innovation. The CDI is equipped with magnetic drum and vacuum system, and works with all the brands of digital flexo plates available on the market as well as with polyester based digital typographical plates (or steel based with typographical options). Thanks to this solution, we can provide our customers with the confidence of knowing that they will consistently receive high-quality printed materials from us.”

Immediate business benefits

Emmetre was founded in 2007 by three partners with extensive experience in the graphic arts industry."We choose not to specialize in a particular field, as most label printers do. Instead, we serve customers regardless of the application and answer to the most varied needs,” says Berro. As a result, Emmetre delivers self-adhesive labels on any material and in any format customers may require. They operate three production lines that include two letterpress machines, a UV flexo system, a finishing line and two lines for label quality assurance.

To no longer depend on plate production services, Emmetre decided to upgrade its prepress department with a digital system. “We searched a solution that would allow us to independently manage all jobs, while enabling us to be more efficient,” comments Berro. "We began testing the CDI Spark 2420 beginning 2013 using our own files, and installed it shortly after. INGLESE, Esko's Italian reseller for CDI and software for the label industry, supported us during the testing phase with competence and engagement. The results were impressive. We saw an immediate, striking impact on our business. The CDI system enabled faster, trouble-free production flows and improved the print quality of our labels. Our customers noticed the difference immediately!”

CDI Spark 2420 expands Esko offerings for label printers

The CDI Spark 2420 is the latest addition to Esko's CDI family and incorporates the quality and performance for which Esko is renowned. The system is designed with narrow web label converters in mind and combines a different image size with greater plate material flexibility. The CDI Spark 2420 is thus perfectly positioned to answer the increasing demand of the label market for high quality flexo and a wider diversity of printing applications. The CDI Spark 2420 can image plate sizes up to 609mm x 508mm and handles a wide range of plate materials - including digital flexo plates, chemistry free film, digital foil-based letterpress plates, digital metal-based letterpress plates and digital silk screens.
