Sturdy Labels become next UK customer to purchase EdaleLimited FL-3

Sturdy Labels have recently taken ownership of an Edale eight colour UV dual servo FL-3 machine at their factory in Skelmersdale, UK. The machine is 350mm wide and boasts an array of additional options including; turnbar, delam/relam, cold foil, lamination, variable length sheeting function and a delivery table.

This high specification press is being used by the UK based label printing company to produce self adhesive labels primarily for the food and personal care sectors, but also the chemical, glass, electronic and paper markets.

Sturdy Labels already have an Edale Beta 250mm wide press as well as a number of other presses’ by other manufacturers, and began searching for another press in 2011 when looking to venture further into film and flexible packaging applications (the FL-3 runs on a number of substrates from 12-450 micron).

They first saw the FL-3 on the Edale stand at the Labelexpo Europe show in 2011 and later visited Edale’s showroom based in Hampshire where they were shown a full machine demonstration. Although Sturdy Labels had visited a number of other machine manufactures they were so impressed with not only the speed of the press, but also the high print quality produced that they decided this cost efficient press was the way forward.

Simon Sturdy of Sturdy Labels comments “We looked and demonstrated many different machines but decided to go with the Edale FL-3 due to the quick turnaround, fast job changes and minimal ink and material waste”, Phil Cummings, Operations Manager continues “Being a previous customer, having had an Edale Beta, we have had firsthand experience, not only with the quality of machine but with Edale’s customer service and support – Edale having the second office in Manchester was also an added bonus for us”. Edale’s partnership and close support have provided Sturdy Labels with the confidence for the continuing development of their business.

With the installation of the press complete, and production on the machine started, Sturdy Labels have said “The installation went very smoothly; press setup times as expected are very short and job throughput is excellent and will continue to improve as our operators gain more experience. Print quality and dual-servo operation features are superb and entirely meet expectations.”

The presses’ precision control, efficiency and adaptability to their particular requirements is enabling Sturdy Labels to win new targeted business in the Personal Care and Consumer Products sectors, Phil Cummings continues “Along with Edale and our specialist ink manufacturer, we have developed a high quality opaque white print which is of particular advantage in the Personal Care sector. Here again, the FL-3’s capability to handle low-calliper unsupported film is of appreciable benefit to our future plans.”

Simon Sturdy concludes “Edale’s FL-3 press, engineered, designed and built in Britain, will allow us to move forward with confidence to develop our business in the demanding markets we have targeted”.

Sturdy Labels have allowed an open door policy on the factory and so for anyone wanting to view the machine in its production environment, please contact Edale directly to arrange a visit.
