CHILI publish (www.chili-publish.com) announces the release of CHILI publisher 4.5. This new release builds on the solid technical foundation that was developed into CHILI publisher and gives users even more tools to enhance the way documents are created and published in any format, in any environment.
“CHILI publisher is included in the workflows of hundreds of customers who work in a variety of markets around the world. Though their products and businesses are different, these customers use CHILI publisher to meet a common goal: provide their end users with a robust design and editing experience while ensuring that brand and design consistency are always maintained,” says Bram Verniest, Chief Operating Officer of CHILI publish.
CHILI publisher 4.5 is available now, with new features that include:
Optimised 3D try-out
Customers of CHILI publisher have praised the way the software enables them to offer their users different versions of a document and to see how changes to one version affects other versions. For example, a user can view different sizes of an advertisement, and can see in real time how changes like adding more text will affect other versions of that advertisement.
The new update contains a treat, that may be especially favourable for packaging users designing folded cartons. CHILI publisher now allows to apply 3D folding for alternate layouts. This means that each layout design, can immediately be verified in 3D folding to check if it will work in terms of dimensions.
3D folding and 3D models will also be available in HTML via a standalone viewer in CHILI publisher version 4.5. This feature works in the same way as the previous version, but instead of returning Flash based 3D viewers, users get the URL of an HTML based 3D view.
Offering users this enhanced visualisation lets providers easily expand the range of possibilities they offer their customers, while also enhancing the level of service they provide.
Enhanced Copy Fitting
Version 4.5 of CHILI publisher includes enhanced copy fitting features across multiple non-linked frames. This allows users to apply the same copy fitting style percentages to all of the text frames, ensuring consistent font sizes throughout the document.
Managing this level of consistency is critical to all users, but is an especially big challenge for the packaging industry, where mandatory nutrition and regulatory data must be translated into several languages, with each taking up different amounts of space. Copy fitting adjusts the font size to accommodate for the difference in space without impacting the uniform design of the package.
Dynamic Image Updates
Its new Dynamic Asset Provider (DAP) framework enables the use of dynamic images from external sources via a "URL feed" in the Editor. A dynamic image is an image that is updated in real-time through variable information provided by the CHILI publisher Editor.
This framework has now been extended to connect to any service that is accessible via a URL, enabling businesses to access the most current information driven by numbers or data. A company’s quarterly financial reports, for example, would use charts to highlight revenue growth that occurred in that time period.
It allows users to have automatic updates of information such as - though not limited to - charts or diagrams using numbers of percentages in an Excel file. In this example data would come from the Excel file into the attached data field associated with the chart of diagram, saving time and ensuring the accuracy of the data presented in the chart or diagram.
In addition, version 4.5 of CHILI publisher also features several new characteristics that improve productivity and efficiency for users. These include:
- Synchronizing Multiple Servers
This new web service function allows users to specify the ID for a specific CHILI publisher resource type (document, asset, etc.) to be used the next time a resource of that type is added. Users can then synchronize files on different servers or compare the content of the same folder on different servers, and then add the missing files from one server to the other.
- Support for Google Drive API
Google replaced their old document API with the Google Drive API. This change affects the use of Google spreadsheets as a data source in CHILI publisher documents. CHILI publisher 4.5 includes updates that allow users to continue to work with Google Spreadsheets from Google Drive without interruption.
- Folding and Alternate Layouts
A different folding setting can now be specified per alternate layout. This means it is now possible to switch the folding setting when the alternate layout is switched.
- Additional information in HTML export
More information is now added to the HTML export, including frame tags, private data, paragraph and character style ID's.
Bram Verniest adds: “We have enhanced several features of the CHILI publisher to meet the demands of our users. Together, these features can support the needs of our customers today - and well into the future.”

This latest update is a crucial one, as it shows both the stability of our solution, and the progress we’re making as our customers’ needs evolve.”
